History of World Wide Web

  • The World Wide Web was created by Tim Berners-Lee in March 1989.
  • He was a researcher at CERN.
  • It was developed with the purpose of enabling the CERN scientist to share information through a computer network.
  • In march 1991 it was ready to be used by CERN.
  • The W3C is the promotes standards for WWW
  • The first International Conference was held in 1994 at CERN.

Cookies

  • Cookies are text files generated by a Web server and stored in the user's computer.
  • These are user-specific information available for later access by the Web server.

Authentication

  • Authentication is the process by which the user's identity who is logging on to a computer is verified.
    • Anonymous access - No user name or password.
    • Basic Authentication - User name and password is used, but it is send as a plain text.Any person intercept it can read the content.
    • Secure Authentication - User name and password is encrypted before sending it over the Internet.
    • Digital certificate - No user name or password is used. One must have the proper certificate to log in.

 

Security over Internet

  • The browsers can be configured to function at deferent security levels in certain zones of Internet.
  • Depending upon this setting the browser either do not down load and display active components like ActiveX or Java applets or gives warning when such active components are encountered. If no security level is set, the browse will simply download the active components.

      • It is an online loan application website,which give us an easy way to calculate the mortgage.

      • All travel related stuff like flight booking, hotel room ete are available.
